“Doctors Council SEIU applauds Assemblyman Richard Gottfried and Senator Bill Perkins, along with Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP) and our coalition partners, for supporting the New York State single-payer legislation. Doctors Council SEIU has long supported single-payer. The time to act is now. For every moment that passes, more of our patients suffer. As New York City led the way with providing universal healthcare through its Health and Hospitals Corporation(HHC) and New York State led the way through its health care exchange, this single-payer legislation will lead the way in further transforming all of New York State into a true universal health care state and lead the nation in doing right by improving access to healthcare for the communities we serve, as well as saving costs in the health system. We call on the New York State Legislature to pass this overdue legislation.”
