Doctors Council SEIU, the largest union of attending doctors in New York State, has launched a new website, an effort coinciding with the recent election of the union’s new leaders President Frank Proscia, M.D. and Executive Director Matthews Hurley, M.D. Doctors Council SEIU has represented doctors within New York City’s public hospital system and the Department of Health, among others, for more than 40 years and has consistently sought out new ways to provide the quality of care its doctors demand and patients deserve. Doctors Council members are at the frontline of serving New York City’s most at-risk individuals in the public hospital systems, in the correctional facilities and in communities across the five boroughs.
“We’re very excited to launch our new website and social media presence,” said Dr. Proscia. “Our new site is reflective of our mission in the evolving landscape of health care, namely: to be the united voice of doctors and patients in every community we serve. We hope that as time goes on, both member and non-member doctors alike will come to see our site as a valuable source of information on issues that impact the ability of doctors to practice our profession and to deliver quality care.”
Dr. Proscia is a psychiatrist from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, as well as a volunteer firefighter, a husband and a father of two daughters. Prior to his election as President, he was an active member of Doctors Council for over 15 years, working as a delegate. He has also served as an elected 1st Vice President for the union, advocating on behalf of doctors and patients.
Dr. Matthews Hurley is a graduate of New York University School of Medicine and has worked for Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in a number of areas, including in the Emergency Department, as a Hospitalist and in the Medicine Out-Patient Clinic. An early member of the Harlem Doctors Association—which later became part of Doctors Council—Dr. Hurley has been a leader in physician advocacy. He has worked with community members and elected leaders to successfully pass citywide tobacco cessation legislation and to preserve vital services at hospitals around New York City.
