For Immediate Release:
July 2nd 2014
“Doctors Council SEIU applauds Councilman Ritchie Torres for allocating a generous $600,000 to the reopening of labor and delivery services at North Central Bronx Hospital (NCBH)–and the surrounding neighborhood that has been without access to vital maternity health services for over a year. We are deeply grateful and fortunate to have such a dedicated public official prioritizing the health of not only his own constituents, but every family in the Bronx. Councilman Torres understands that a vibrant and prosperous Bronx starts with quality healthcare services for women and families,” stated Dr. Frank Proscia, M.D., President of Doctors Council SEIU, the nation’s oldest and largest labor union for doctors.
“Thanks to the incredible work of our partners in the Bronx Coalition and our many dedicated allies in the New York City Council and Administration, NCBH and the families it serves can look forward to the reopening of labor and delivery services this fall. With this funding from Councilman Torres, NCBH will once again be an invaluable community space for women’s health, providing the breadth of services and level of care our doctors and the patients they serve expect and demand. As doctors and a voice for patients, it is our mission to eliminate health disparities that plague our City; access to comprehensive labor, delivery and midwifery services in underserved areas like the North Central Bronx goes a long way toward achieving that goal. Doctors Council SEIU looks forward to working with the Councilman and all our partners to continue to improve and expand access to meaningful, quality healthcare for all New Yorkers.”
Councilman Ritchie Torres, the Bronx Coalition and community members will hold a press conference announcing the funding allocation in front of NCBH Wednesday, July 2nd at 11:30 AM.
