As part of the three day IHI training , one of the issues that we explored is motivation. What does the science say about why people are motivated to change? In Dan Pink’s talk at the RSA (The Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce) he argues that the science demonstrates motivation for professionals comes from “autonomy mastery and purpose” not reward. This video was shown during the IHI training and this idea inspired many of the doctors and spoke to their experiences.
