NYS Sen. Schumer and Rep. Torres Lead the Way as FEMA Reimburses H+H for COVID-19 Emergency Spending & Treatment Expenses
Doctors Council is proud to have stood with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Rep. Ritchie Torres as it was announced that H+H will receive nearly $900 million reimbursement from FEMA for COVID-19 emergency spending and treatment expenses. We thank and appreciate Sen. Schumer and Rep. Torres who have delivered for H+H and the patients and communities we serve.
Doctors Council was with Sen. Schumer and Rep. Torres at Lincoln Hospital both on September 15th when this victory was announced and on Friday, July 23rd when the first press conference occurred calling on FEMA to do right.
FEMA’s reimbursement of $620 million to H +H follows the $260 million previously allocated to H+H earlier this year for a total reimbursement of $880 million. H+H has been waiting for this reimbursement from FEMA since October 2020. The reimbursement will cover staffing, equipment and patient care efforts that were necessary during the surge of COVID-19 cases in NYC. The receipt of this reimbursement will help to stabilize the finances of H+H.
The patients that Lincoln Hospital and all of H+H take care of, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic that continues today, as well as the doctors and other health care team staff deserve this. We know that H+H was the epicenter of COVID-19 in NYC. Our members and other frontline health care staff fought every day to save lives. Doctors risked their lives to care for COVID-19 patients. We are proud and appreciative of the work that our members did and continue to do every day. Our members bravely provided around the clock care to COVID-19 patients in the height of the pandemic.
The FEMA funds will help reimburse what was done and enable the mission that everyone is entitled to the timely delivery of quality and safe care.
Job well done by Sen. Schumer and Rep. Torres. It is good to know we have such allies for H+H and our patients and communities. Congratulations to all.
